Barbara Jean Sherrod
02-18-1938 - 08-15-2025
Obituary
All praises to our heavenly Father. James 4:14 says, “Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.”
Barbara Jean Sherrod was born February 18, 1938, to the late Derry Molton II and Ola Mae Molton in Birmingham, Alabama.
Barbara was the best of the best daughter, wife, mom, sister, aunt, and friend. Barbara professed Christ at an early age and faithfully served at the New Covenant of Faith Ministries under the pastorship of Thaddeus Rutledge. During her teenage years, Barbara married the LOVE of her life, the one true LOVE Willie Henry Sherrod, Sr., who preceded her in death. They together shared 65 years in a loving marriage. Barbara was a product of the Birmingham school system and was a graduate of Rosedale High School. Barbara finished Westin Olin Nursing School as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). Barbara worked many years in Pediatrics and working with veterans. Later, Barbara retired from the VA.
Preceding her in death were her brothers, Sgt. Derry Molton III, Kenneth Molton, and Robert Walker; sister, Linda Molton Woody; and grandson, Shannon Vanburen.
Barbara leaves to cherish her memory: her loving children, Valerie Sherrod Willis, Ronald D. Sherrod (Latrell), Willie Henry Sherrod, Jr. (Tracy); brothers, Vincent Molton (Clementine); sisters, Brenda Axle and Gwendolyn Scott; one sister-in-law, Patricia Walker; eleven grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren; three great great grandchildren and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and loving friends.
Romans 8:28, “And we know that all things work together for the good of them that loves God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”
